Dear mystical ones,
I hope you’re having a fabulous Winter Solstice, and are winding down ready to worship the darkness one last time before it gives way to light.
The Sun/Son/Jesus/Persephone/Horus/Baldur/Hestia will be making their way back up to the world of the living and light soon, but we’ve got some time now to set it all on pause (phew). We can nest in the darkness and feed ourselves up aplenty, ready for a new hustle in a new year – ohh yes, it’s finally time to switch off and celebrate.
Today, I’ve celebrated the coming birth of light with a solstice ritual that I’d like to share with you:
Just before the sun started to fade, I went down to the beach with my partner and we set some wishes on fire.
We wrote what we’re planning to leave behind in the dark part of the year, and what we want to bring with us into the new season of light.
I stood on the rocks, looking out to the misty sea, and envisioned these goals taking place. What they would feel like when I achieved them. Then I lit the paper aflame, letting the wishes burn right down until I almost singed my fingertips, I let go quickly – and off blew the ashes on the sea breeze…
– so gorgeous!
I highly recommend this if you haven’t had yourself a little solstice ritual yet (if you’re doing it indoors though, definitely do it over a bowl or the sink, I learnt this the hard way with a singed carpet way back when. Doh!).
~ To make the ritual extra special and personal, I write my wishes on small pieces of paper cut from my journal – I guess symbolically, I’m sacrificing up a bit of my soul 😉 -extra magic making mojo!
These kind of seasonal rituals force us to focus on the shedding of time.
Each time the wheel of the year turns, we become anew, reborn, and as the ancients always knew, you should plan what you’re going to take with you into your afterlife. When you start again afresh, what will you take and what will you leave?
That can be a lot of pressure though, and I’ll happily admit, this time of year can be crazy making!
It’s this time of year when we reflect on how far we’ve come, and despite the festivities, sometimes that can be stressful in itself, desensitizing even. Looking back and wondering if we did enough or if we’re on the right path.
A lot of this is ego talk though and not your truth – you did just great, you really did. It’s the world (and yourself at times!) who tells you you’re not good enough or you haven’t done enough.
It’s easy to get caught up in the commotion of a materialist consumer Christmas, wondering why we didn’t achieve as much as we wanted to in the material realm, when we’ve come so far on the inside, and this is why I try extra hard to focus on the immaterial at this time of year.
I try to focus on the myths and traditions and stories and connections, on that magic that hangs gently in the air, on generosity, compassion, and soft jazz and dreams.
We’re well and truly down the right-brained rabbit hole right now, a mad hatter’s tea party – and why not, we’ve nothing else to do?!
We’re at the darkest, coldest time of the year, so all we can do now is rest, celebrate, eat, love, pray, plan, dream, knowing that the wheel has turned again and we’ve got some time before we need to move forwards – and that we will, all in good time!
plus, the planets definitely say it’s so:
Saturn has moved into Capricorn now, where he’s much happier! FINALLY we’ll get to feel our goals align with our efforts. No more pushing a rock up a waterfall.
It’s been a hard slog getting through 2017 with Saturn in Sagittarius constantly creating this pendulum of work/play discontent all year.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been swinging wayyyy harder to the work side of the pendulum for the most part, whilst guilt-dreaming about the other side where we get to play and chill – a clear indicator that we’re not getting enough of the good stuff!
So thank the stars Saturn is finally feeling a bit happier in his home sign. And the Sun is there too now, guiding our highest goals towards manifestation. We’ve just got to make sure that come 2018, we continue to put in the effort and don’t give up, then we should start seeing some more preferable results!
– and lastly! We’ve had both Mars and Jupiter saunter on over into sexy Scorpio, so issues of money, power (our own personal power in particular) and identifying our shadow desires and unhealthy mindsets have started to unlock some deeper stuff – all of which will come in handy next year!
I can feel it’s going to be a goodun…
So for now, I wish you a Merry Christmas / Dreamy Solstice / Happy Hanukkah / Abundant Kwanza / Rockin’ Saturnalia etc. etc. etc. and I hope you all have a fabulous New Year! 🙂
Much love and mystic mistletoe kisses,
